Healthy Eating

Healthy eating is a key part of being healthy.

Eat foods from the five food groups each day and aim to include 2 serves of fruit and 5 serves of vegetables.

  1. Bread, cereals, rice, pasta and noodles (include wholegrain varieties).
  2. Vegetables (include 5 serves a day).
  3. Fruit (include 2 serves a day).
  4. Milk, yogurt, cheese (choose low fat dairy products).
  5. Meat, fish, poultry, eggs and nuts.

Eat these healthy foods instead of “extra foods”.

“Extra foods” like cakes, biscuits, lollies, and chips are not included in these five food groups. Only eat these foods in small amounts and occasionally or not at all if you are trying to lose weight.

Stop eating when you are comfortably full.

Eat according to your activity levels and watch your portion size.

Drink water instead of “energy dense” drinks.

Drinking water instead of sports drinks, flavoured mineral water, fruit drinks, soft drinks and alcohol is an easy way to decrease the amount of kilojoules you consume.
